THE STORY OF OUR COFFEE
800 years ago, when Mapungubwe's famous gold rhino was crafted, trade boomed between Arabs from the Yemen peninsula and local African inhabitants who had discovered and were processing gold. Since the Arab traders had themselves just discovered coffee, this beverage, that was later to take the world by storm, was probably enjoyed on these trading expeditions. Hence our claim that the very first coffee in South Africa was enjoyed around 800 years ago, just 450kms north of Pretoria, long before Jan Van Riebeek, just 450kms north of Pretoria, longs arrival at the Cape!
